Shaykh Mohammed: "SHUT UP"

Reading this article from Gulf News made me LoL!! because it's about frickin' time someone tells all the nay-sayers and scally-wags to lay off on the bad publicity of Dubai. Shaykh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and Vice-President of UAE said in clear English,
"And I want to tell those people who nag about Dubai and Abu Dhabi to
shut up.”

What would bring about a leader to say such a phrase?

My husband and I were talking about how news channels like BBC kept on criticizing the UAE (specifically Dubai) because of a few minor issues, but methinks jealousy was the real motive behind such nit-picking.

Or...

Within the last few months, a leading English-language newspaper largely read by ex-pats was dedicating their front page to some bad press -- and guess which innocent-but-arrested citizens were always being featured as the victims of the police and the legal system in the UAE?? (The romantic sun-bathers!!)

Whatever the case, the Shaykh's comment made me smile and it was perfectly suitable at this time. (To read the full article, click here to be taken to the GulfNews website.)

PS: I don't really use the word "nay-sayers" or "scallywags" in real life but I try to keep this Blog G-Rated ;-)

15 And you thought...:

That's hilarious!:P
But should leaders be using such colloquial terms?

I love shaykh Mohammad man! After Baba Zayed (May Allah grant him jannat al firdaus) its shaykh mohammad i have immense respect and love for. Every1 who knows me, knows i j'adore this place and so I get terribly frustrated when people go ON AND ON AND ON abt how this place is so fake and bad and what not. Sure, nobody denies it has problems and issues but what abt the fact that UAE is trying its best to reach to greater heights and even though it does get really materialistic at times how can anyone argue abt the fact that it is amongst the safest places you can live in masha'allah. Give it some time to deal with its issues instead of continuously bashing it.

My 16 hour Pleasure in U.A.E.!

On the way back to Wash. D.C. last October from a 6 month trip to Pakistan, I had a 16 hour layover in AbuDhabi airport. I am American Muslim and I was traveling back during Ramadan. From the very moment I stepped foot into the Terminal for my customs check, I had the fortunate experience of being treated as royalty. Let me explain: I got into the wrong line and a customs agent noticed and sent a security personnel to escort me to his booth. He very politely gave me Salaams and informed me women do not wait in line and proceeded to ask me the usual questions about my travel. Out of concern he also asked if I was traveling alone and when I said yes he also inquired why I had purchased a ticket with such a long lay over. I felt in no way was he being intrusive, just concerned. I explained this was the last ticket available for me and he said he would see to it my stay was safe and pleasurable. He was not kidding. My flight left from another terminal and he saw to it I got there via taxi and did not have to push or carry my bags. I got to a nice waiting area and all of a sudden another porter appeared and asked if i would like anything to eat or drink! I said some juice would be fine and thanked him. Not only did juice come to me but the porter also appeared with a huge box at dinner time with a beautiful gourmet meal from the top restaurant at the airport! There was enough food to feed 3 people. I can remember some European women traveling staring wondering who in the world I was that I was getting such Royal Treatment! Alhamdulillah. I was also send a phone card to call anyone in America to let them know about my travel or just for contact. So I say all this to let you know I have never been treated so well at any place in this world other than U.A.E. and this is saying a lot because my father is a famous musician and I have travel quite a lot with him.
One last note: On the way over to Pakistan I had a 2 1/2 hour layover in Manchester England. I must say this was the worse place I had the pleasure to stop over in, because every time I inquired of anything I was rudely snapped at and I felt they were stuffy and very rude!
So now as a Artist and Henna Mehndi Artist , I am doing everything I can to find my way back to U.A.E., and enjoy more of the wonderful hospitality I experienced my hours there!

all countries have their problems. i think dubai should be heavily criticized. they treat their forieng workers like crap and the system is racist. there are a lot of good things about it too but, you can't ignore the obvious.

Anita, I am glad u had such a wonderful experience here in UAE!! Unfortunately that doesn't happen to just anyone who arrives at an airport here -- I can't imagine an Indian worker having that kind of treatment (blame it on the society).
