The MCC Does not Speak For Me

If anyone is wondering who that goofy guy to the right is, it's Tarek Fatah -- the founder of the MCC (Muslim Canadian Congress). I couldn't find their symbol but did find this funny anti-Tarek sign while Googling images.

So what do I, a Muslim Canadian, have against the MCC?

Well for the one thing, their constant support of anything "anti-Jihadi" or "anti-Sharia". When I was still in Canada, they sent a CHRISTMAS CARD to the Canadian Army Invaders of Afghanistan wishing them "happy holidays to our brothers & sisters fighting for peace -- we hope you come home safe & sound!!"

Uhhhh....

And if you wanna dull your brain, just go through their articles written by who-knows-who and interviews to come across quotes such as:

On wearing Hijaab:
-- "The injunction in the Quran is for modesty (for both men and women). Some Muslim women interpret this as covering their head with a scarf or chador."

On Sharia being introduced in Canada for Muslim family trials:
-- "It is the legalities embedded in Shariah that bother me because they put women and religious minorities at a considerable disadvantage.

On the niqaab:
-- "In a statement, the MCC said, not only is the wearing of a face-mask a security hazard and has led to a number of bank heists in Canada and overseas, the burka or niqab are political symbols of Saudi inspired Islamic extremism.

On "Jihad":
-- "The MCC has also expressed dismay that even though the dust has barely settled, apologists of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda have started spreading conspiracy theories in an attempt to deflect criticism from the Jihadis. Rather than categorically denouncing the terrorists and their Islamist Jihadi doctrine, many Islamists are portraying the Jihadis as if they were some sort of a liberation movement."

I remember fellow Canadian Irshad Manji and her whole in-your-face attitude about how we need to accept gay relationships in Islam. Tarek Fatah and her used to be all buddy-buddy until he said her book was "written by the Jews for the Jews" or some crap like that. NONE of these people speak for me or my religious beliefs, and there should be like some kind of fine print saying, "while we the MCC claim to represent Islam and it's noble scriptures, many Muslim communities and individuals reject our ideas therefore they are the dreaded fundamentalists, jihadi apologists and the only way to enlighten them is to keep pushing for a more liberal outlook on faith."

Boo to the MCC!!

Salam aleikom,

i love your post! i had never heard of the MCC until i moved here. I don't support the Taliban or suicide bombing or killing innocent women and children. But I also don't support going against the Qur'an concerning hijab, niqab, sharia, being gay (those ppl need help) etc.

LoL Skye -- "what the fudge" is right!! From Day 1 it has been like this -- okay we all know suicide & killing innocent ppl is FORBIDDEN but their policies & other public views are extreme. May Allah ta`ala guide them!!

Teehee!! Thnx A`qilah!! Yay!!

Wa`alaikum asalaam wa rahmatullahi Sarah!! Like I said in my previous comment -- I can totally re-iterate your sentiment!! There is a balance of how far you denounce something but once it has to do with God-given laws or practices of the Sunnah -- and so-and-so is denying it -- that is a real problem and illness in our Ummah.

May Allah ta`ala guide us all :-(

Calling them Apologetic Muslims is just to kind, They are so low in my eyes. MCC is ridiculous and from what I've read from your post shows me that they are the ones who are very "unislamic".
May Allah Guide the Muslims Ameen!

Yes OhSoMuslim -- their policies & POV's are not what I would consider for any organization claiming to represent Muslims.

Thanks much for posting this (I was wondering what MCC was...). We have something similar in my country, one of which is run by women, called Sisters in Islam - fighting for the 'rights' of women when Islam already gave us rights 1400 years ago. May God keep us on His path always! Ameen.

Sharia law has no place in our country. if you want it go back to a muslim country.

on wearing the hijab, what is wrong with what they are saying? there are certain women who don't cover their head. granted this is wrong, but no one can force them....

the niqab attracts more attention than it detracts, especially in the western world.

sending a xmas card to our army was wrong because they are invading and occupying a country right now. I don't agree with this war at all... unfortunate way to end lives of many young men/women

I feel very sad... May Allah guide them and keep all muslims on Sirat-al Mustaqeem.
